Makes the white ones that come with is sound tinny and weak. Quite a shock, hearing what these phones can do even with the poor audio quality of the 1st-gen iPhone. Wow.
Each set lasts me about two years. I don't think bass response is flat, but I've always found it a good sound for rock and/or roll. I've been a fan of this model line for at least four generations.
For audiobooks and blogs it's a bit too clear, and you'll notice lots of background noise and compression artifacts you miss with stock white earbuds. With the introduction of the latest version, MDR-E829V, Sony changed the right-angle plug slightly (trimed it down a bit) so now it is compatible with the 1st-gen iPhone (thus generation 2 also). They are not, however, a proper iPhone headset as they have no mic and no clicky-switch to control iPhone playback/answer/hangup.Very highly recommended. I discovered them way back in the days of the minidisc, and while the looks of the earpiece hasn't changed, the sound has definitely gotten better.
These phones have always had a deep, clear bass presence lacking in most other earbuds.
My only complaint is that they only fit your ear if it's medium to large. Unless you want BOSE headphones get these and you will be happy. If you have small ears don't even bother with these. After trying several different pairs of headphones i bought these because they looked like a pair i had previously had. I went to several different stores and bought the over the ear style of headphones and the ones that go in your ear and these by far were the only ones with bass and exceptional highs also.
Good for quick access and rapid retrieval. The product was as I expected, although, a little larger than I imagined it.
While I prefer in-ear earbuds for long flights, the rest of the time I prefer these as it creeps me out to walk around without some sort of audio sense of my surroundings.I only have a few quibbles, none of which are worth losing a star. This is partially a blessing since, while I've lost the original pair that I bought years ago, I only misplaced the second pair I bought: now I have two sets, which means I'm never without my earbuds, even when one pair goes temporarily missing.
At this point, that's barely half the price of going to a movie. Quibble 3, after 3-4 years, the spinny part of the case starts to stick, making it hard to wind.My very first pair was $10, and Sony's kept the price firmly in place since then.
These have been my most trusted headphones since high school or college (it's been so long I can't remember).over a decade, at least. Quibble 2, being earbuds, they get lost easily.
Heck, I'm almost tempted to buy pair #4, just to make sure Sony keeps making these for another decade. They're comfortable, make good sound, and super convenient because of the inline volume control.
Quibble 1, the foam cushions are a nuisance to put back on whenever my 4-year-old decides to pull them off.
The sound quality is very good. Its so amazingly convenient. When I'm walking to class or going on a bus I don't have to keep going back to my iPod to adjust volume. I have to say, I love these headphones, and since the past 6 years I've owned only two pairs of headphones, and both of them were this model. Also, I did use the case back in the day (years ago) when I first got it, and I still would but I just chose not to.Overall very good product. If it wasn't for my clumsiness I would still be on the first pair. The first ones stopped working after 4.5 years of use because I stepped on them by accident, and I only got about year's worth of use out of the last one because I got it caught in the door and one of the wires pulled off. A whole bunch of my family and friends use this kind and we've never had a problem with it at all.And honestly speaking, I didn't get these kind for the case, I got it more because of the volume control.
